ACADEMIC COURSE COORDINATOR
RCSI POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES AT IRISH HOSPICE FOUNDATION
BACKGROUND
RCSI, in association with Irish Hospice Foundation, runs three
accredited Level 9 programmes focusing on loss and bereavement:?MSc
Loss & Bereavement; MSc Loss & Bereavement (Clinical Practice); and
Professional Certificate in Children and Loss.
These programmes aim to equip practitioners and managers to promote
and provide a range of appropriate supports in their communities,
workplaces and professional practices, with a focus on impacting
health, social and community systems and ultimately, enhancing the
quality of life. The academic course coordinator will work with
students through their two-year cycle.
The programmes are rooted in contemporary scientific research and
designed against a backdrop of policy and professional regulation.
The MSc Loss & Bereavement and MSc Loss & Bereavement (Clinical
Practice) are two-year part-time programmes, recruiting participants
annually. The post relates primarily to these two programmes.
THE ACADEMIC COURSE COORDINATOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
* Overall coherence of the programmes
* Quality and student experience
* On-going academic development
REPORTING
The Academic Course Coordinator will report to the Head of Education
and Bereavement, Irish Hospice Foundation.
The MSc administrator will report in to this role.
MAIN DUTIES
_PROVIDE ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT FOR YEAR ONE AND TWO OF THE
MSC PROGRAMMES_
* Liaise with lecturers supporting development of module content and
delivery
* Provide assignment support including moderating of grades
* Liaise with and coordinate supervisors for year two dissertations
_STUDENT SUPPORT_
* Meet with students providing direction and academic support
throughout the course cycle
* Provide or refer for emotional/social/ academic supports as
required
* Oversee content of course handbook
_RECRUITMENT, SELECTION AND INDUCTION_
* Work with administrator to direct recruitment and to select
participants
* Conduct Accreditation of Prior Learning Reviews
_OVERSEE THE QUALITY PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS GOVERNING THE COURSE_
* Ensure all decisions are made with respect to Marks and Standards
and SARA regulations
* Ensure assessment strategies are appropriate and adhered to,
including overseeing assessment feedback
* Review evaluations and make indicated changes
_ACADEMIC INPUT_
* Teach on specific modules of the courses, appropriate to
qualifications and experience
* Provide supervision/moderation for year two dissertations
including support for research ethics applications
* Work with IHF library manager in ensuring courses and students are
resourced
_MEETINGS_
* Represent the course and Professional Certificate in Children and
Loss on relevant boards or exam boards
* Attend RCSI postgraduate managers meetings
_TRAINING_
- Input to and support other IHF activities in training and education
in line with IHF strategy and demands
- guide and support the work of Education Development & Learning
Technology
_IHF_
* Engage with the work agenda of IHF and work across programmes
* Liaise with the research function of IH
* Any other duties as required by IHF
PERSON SPECIFICATION
* Qualified to a minimum of Level 9 (MSc) in a relevant field, such
as, but not limited to, one of the following: social sciences;
psychology; social work; bereavement.
* Experience of designing, teaching, overseeing postgraduate courses
or equivalent
* Some understanding and experience of education accreditation at
third level
* Strong interest in education and development
* Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following ?, action
research, policy/leadership, bereavement
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work in a team
CONDITIONS
The salary will be commensurate with experience. Office base is
at?Irish Hospice Foundation, Nassau St, Dublin 2. This is a four day
a week, permanent post with a six-month probation period. Working
times will be flexible. Weekend work is periodically required.
